Willowbrook: A Child's Place

Willowbrook offers a safe, and nurturing environment for children and young adults of all ages. To find the group best suited to your child, please see the table below.

Squirrel's Nest, ages 3-4

Age 3 - half days: mornings only, and must be 3 by June 1 - MUST BE POTTY TRAINED. No exceptions.
Age 4 may attend half or full days

The Squirrel's Nest is an area of beginnings, where opportunities abound to explore the arts and try new skills in an emotionally secure environment. Children are offered arts, puppetry, weaving, ceramics, dance, drama, nature study, and music, including violin and cello. They are guided by their own teachers, as well as other specialists at Willowbrook. They may also participate in theater productions.

Note: At times this area is full.  You must state specific dates of attendance on the registration form.  Enter only dates to which you can commit.  This will provide more opportunities for other children to attend.  During the program you may add days when space is available.  Please check at the registration desk or call ahead.

The Village, ages 5-7

Must be 5 by starting date to be in Village - No exceptions.

Crickets - Age 5 Owls - Age 5 1/2
Beavers - Age 6 Otters - Age 6 1/2
Herons - Age 7 Eagles - Age 7 1/2

 

 

 

The growing interests and diverse talents of this busy, eager group have many opportunities for expression. Each age level in the Village has its own home base and teachers who help guide the children in choosing activities. Village age groups mingle during most of the day as they make individual choices. Village activity centers include Art, Ceramics, Weaving, Puppetry, Storytelling, Drama, Dance, Nature, and Music. Other specialists also visit. Music staff teaches piano, violin, cello, recorder and guitar by request.  Children may also participate in theatre productions. 7 and 7½ year olds may join afternoon group visits to Artisan areas.

The Artisans, ages 8-11

Must be 8 by starting date

This age group may choose their daily activities from a variety of expanded art centers, where they can delve more deeply and explore more independently.  Offerings include drama, dance, instrumental and vocal music, creative writing, photography, filmmaking, nature studies, fine arts, crafts from around the world, ceramics, basketry, weaving, puppetry, and more.  Staff are available to guide children who need help becoming acquainted with the various centers.

Advanced Artisans, ages 12-18

The high school program offers opportunity for advanced instruction in selected arts, including drama and theatre, filmmaking, fine arts, ceramics, stained glass, basketry, creative writing, choral and instrumental music, and dance. All Artisan areas are available to this group.
