Martha Jane Kaufman
Martha is a Specialist in Artisan Drama this year (2010).
Since her last year working as an assistant in 2004, she has received her degree in American Literature and Dance from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, taught theatre, dance and movement, playwriting, poetry, and Spanish to children of all ages, and playwriting for adults. Her many worthwhile projects have included designing curriculum on Latino cultures and histories in California, teaching after-school theatre for children from public housing in Connecticut, and designing creative writing workshops for incarcerated women as part of the Wesleyan University Prison Solidarity Project. Martha lives in Boston, where she was one of three playwrights chosen for a grant-funded residency at Huntington Theatre Company. She has received awards and commissions from the San Francisco Playwrights’ Foundation, the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, Stark Raving Theater, and Young Playwrights Inc. This fall, she will enter the playwriting MFA program at Yale School of Drama. Martha says she is very excited to return to Willowbrook!
